CardSharks Hope to Draw Wild Card Against Staten Island
Atlantic City CardSharks (7-5)  Vs. Staten Island Xtreme (3-9)

Posted June 24,2004 Atlantic City, NJ
The CardSharks will host the Staten Island Xtreme on Saturday night looking to take another big step in their quest for an NIFL playoff berth. The NIFL’s two newest teams have met once this season, with the ‘Sharks defeating the Xtreme 57-36 at Boardwalk Hall in May.
The CardSharks won their fourth game in a row last week, defeating the Carolina Rays in Florence, by a 46-35 score. The ‘Sharks have won 6 of their last 7 and are making a strong push for a spot in the NIFL postseason tournament, hoping to win against Staten Island.
The Xtreme look to play spoiler to rival Atlantic City, after coming off a loss to the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 51-29 last week. Staten Island will also look a bit different than the first match-up between the two clubs. Former Quarterback Akili Roberson has signed with the Greyhounds, Head Coach Avery Atadero has stepped down and former Kicker Matt Magrone is now a member of the CardSharks.
The ‘Sharks feature a much-improved defense now, holding opponents to just 30 points a game during their 4-game winning streak. The defensive line, featuring starters Jamal Naji, Brett Kolk and Eddie Bynes, have been attacking opposing quarterbacks in recent weeks. Naji and Kolk each forced a fumble in last week’s victory, and Kolk even scored a touchdown.
The ‘Sharks have been consistent offensively, as Quarterback Tony Racioppi, Wide Receivers Greg Muckerson and Eric “Easy” Magrini have ranked among the NIFL league leaders all season. Returning kicks for the second week in a row will be Wide Receiver Mike Osborne. Osborne returned a kickoff for a touchdown last week, replacing the injured Rocco DeMaise.
There are still tickets available for the final game of the CardSharks inaugural season at historic Boardwalk Hall.  For tickets, call Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420 or visit them on the web at www.ticketmaster.com.

The teams are separated by just a ½ game coming into the match up, with Fort Wayne coming out on top 63-54 in the first meeting. The ‘Sharks, coming off a season sweep of the Evansville Blue Cats, played stellar defense en route to a 31-27 victory last week at Boardwalk Hall. The Freedom lost to the defending champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds last week, 52-23.

Freedom Quarterback Antoine Taylor also had a good game, with 5 touchdown passes and Running Back Rocky Harvey added the remaining 3. “
It is difficult to keep a Back like Rocky Harvey in check,” stated General Manager and Head Coach Mike Siani. “We will have to focus on slowing him down a bit, and keeping an eye on Taylor.”
The ‘Sharks defense will look to Defensive End Eddie Bynes to help control Rocky Harvey. Bynes, who has dominated the line of scrimmage since his return to the NIFL, will get help from fellow Ends Jamal Naji and John Fiore. Linebacker/End Earl Biddy was extremely effective off the bench last week, as he was involved in 6 tackles.
Offensively, Wide Receiver Eric “Easy” Magrini ranks among the league leaders in several offense categories, including: receptions (55), touchdowns (14), and yards (543). Special teams threat Rocco DeMaise collected the Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Award for the 4th time this season, with 158 kick return yards and 2 touchdowns against the Blue Cats.

Former Staten Island Xtreme Kicker Matt Magrone Added to Roster

The CardSharks have added Kicker Matt Magrone to take over the team’s placekicking duties for the remainder of the season. Magrone, a current criminal justice major at St. John’s University, was originally set to kick for the Red Storm this past season before the program folded.
Magrone is 4 for 12 on field goals this season, and has hit 50% on PAT attempts. Magrone has been extremely dangerous from long-range, as he is a perfect 3 for 3 on field goals between 40 yards and 50 yards. His season long stands at 44 yards.
“We are excited to have Matt on board for the remainder of the season,” stated fellow Staten Islander and Head Coach Mike Siani. “The most important thing for him to focus on at this point is consistency from short-range distance.”
The CardSharks also welcome the return of Defensive Back Wade Fauntleroy and Wide Receiver Ryan Ojeda to the lineup. Fauntleroy suffered a broken hand in the victory against the Greyhound and sat out last game. Wide Receiver Ryan Ojeda, who has been out with a hamstring pull, will return to action this week.

CardSharks Welcome “America’s Tenor” in Tribute to the Finest, Bravest and EMTs
Posted June 2,2004 Atlantic City, NJ
While the CardSharks players prepare to host the Evansville Blue Cats on the field Saturday night, the fans prepare to welcome “America’s Tenor” Daniel Rodriguez to Boardwalk Hall for his famous a cappella versions of “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.”
Rodriguez, sometimes referred to as “America’s Singing Policeman,” has just released his second album, “From My Heart,” which some say is an even more heartfelt album than his first, “Daniel Rodriquez-The Spirit of America,” released shortly after the September 11th attacks. In addition to singing the “Star Spangled Banner” before the game, Rodriquez will perform a number during the halftime ceremonies from his new album, which will also be available at the game for purchase.
In addition to the performances by Brooklyn native Rodriquez, to honor the men and women who serve as Police Officers, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Technicians in local communities, tickets will be discounted for all fans at buying one at regular price, and receiving the second for just $1. These special tickets will be only be available at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office, located directly on the Boardwalk.

CardSharks Host Evansville at Boardwalk Hall
Atlantic City Looks to Continue Winning Ways

Posted June 4,2004 Atlantic City, NJ
The CardSharks will host the Evansville Blue Cats on Saturday, June 5th at 7:30 PM in Historic Boardwalk Hall. The ‘Sharks (4-5) come into the game winners of 3 out of their last 4, and just pulled off an upset victory over the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, 33-31. The Blue Cats (4-4) lost at Lexington, 69-28.
The first meeting between the two clubs featured a fairly even balance between the rushing and passing game. The CardSharks rushed for 51 yards and 5 touchdowns, while the Blue Cats ran the ball for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Ramon Robinson led the way on the ground for the ‘Cats with 49 yards rushing.
“Evansville has an explosive offense and a tough defensive unit,” stated General Manager and Head Coach Mike Siani. “It will be critical that we can get out of the gate fast, and not get caught up in the success we had last week.”
The CardSharks are looking forward to the return of Defensive Back Jermain Johnson. Johnson originally injured his foot several weeks ago in Evansville and is listed as probable for this week’s contest. Despite the addition of Johnson, the defensive secondary will again be short-handed with the loss of Defensive Back Wade Fauntleroy. Fauntleroy suffered a broken hand in the victory against the Greyhound and will sit out at least one game. Finally, the club added Wide Receiver Mike Osborn from Rowan University. Wide Receivers Shawn Foxworth and Michael Forest were waived earlier in the week to make room for the addition of Osborn.

CardSharks’ Pair Garner NIFL Honors
DeMaise and Racioppi Named Players of the Week for Second Time

Posted May 19,2004 Atlantic City, NJ
‘Sharks Quarterback Tony Racioppi and Jack-of-All-Trades James “Rocco” DeMaise earned NIFL Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Racioppi, the Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, accounted for six ‘Sharks touchdowns in the victory over the Evansville Blue Cats, 52-40. DeMaise, this week’s Atlantic Conference Special Teams Players of the Week, accounted for 107 kick return yards and successfully made 4 out of 5 extra points.

Rocco DeMaise began this season with the CardSharks looking to be one of Tony Racioppi’s main targets. In order to maximize the depth on the 21-man roster, however, Coach Mike Siani had to look at players who could be featured at more than one position. Rocco is featured at wide receiver, running back, kick returner, and now kicker. He has found himself a nice niche on the team, and was awarded for his efforts by being named Week 10 NIFL Special Teams Player of the Week. The award is the second of the season for DeMaise in this category. Rocco currently ranks among the NIFL league leaders in all-purpose yards, with nearly 150 yards per game. DeMaise had 2 rushing touchdowns, 4 extra points, 2 catches, and even recorded a tackle against Evansville last week.
“Rocco is not the most imposing guy on the field, but he can do it all. He is a tremendous asset to the team, and has done all that we have asked of him,” stated Coach Siani. “It is important to have players who are willing to do whatever it takes to win. Rocco is the ultimate team player and consummate professional.”
Quarterback Tony Racioppi also ranks among the league leaders in several categories including: completion percentage (58.6%), touchdowns (21), and quarterback rating (103.0). Racioppi showed his versatility last week by not only throwing three touchdown passes, by he also ran for an additional three in the victory over Evansville.

Atlantic City Atlantic City Deals Evansville the Loss 52-40

Posted May 15,2004 Atlantic City, NJ
The CardSharks recorded the first road victory in the short history of the franchise Saturday night in Evansville, Indiana. The Evansville Blue Cats (3-4) could not stop the efficient Atlantic City offense, as the CardSharks scored over 50 points for the fourth time this season. The CardSharks (3-4) also played well defensively, with a bend but don’t break attitude that helped them secure the win.
The CardSharks offense established the run, with nearly 50 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Quarterback Tony Racioppi completed 14 of 28 passes for 123 yards on the night. Racioppi accounted for six touchdowns by passing for three touchdowns and rushing for another three. Wide Receiver Eric Magrini led the way with 4 catches for 27 yards and two touchdowns. The CardSharks special teams also improved, as jack-of-all trades Rocco DeMaise took over the kicking duties this week. DeMaise handled the kickoffs well, and added 4 extra points on the night. Rocco also had 2 catches for 22 yards, scored twice on the ground and returned kicks for another 107 yards. Overall, DeMaise had 140 yards of total offense, and 16 points.

The CardSharks “D” had 3 sacks on the night, and the secondary came up with 2 interceptions. The leading tacklers on the night were Chonn Lacey and Omar Lucas, with each recording 6 tackles. Eddie Bynes had a breakout game, harassing Robinson all night and sacking him twice. Lance Smith and Jermain Johnson chipped in with an interception each.

CardSharks Fall to Freedom in Shootout
Late Burst is not Enough in 63-54 Loss

The CardSharks fell on the road to the Fort Wayne Freedom on Saturday, April 24 by a score of 63-54. The Freedom (3-2) jumped ahead early, and managed to fend off a fourth quarter comeback by the CardSharks (1-3).
“We came out slow in the first half against a very good football team,” stated General Manager and Head Coach Mike Siani. “When you fall behind like that, it makes it tough to come back and win on the road.”
The offense had a big night for the CardSharks, especially through the air. Quarterback Tony Racioppi threw for 279 yards and six touchdowns, while only being sacked one time. Wide Receiver Eric Magrini exploded for 10 receptions and over 100 yards receiving. Both Shawn Foxworth and Rocco DeMaise added two touchdown receptions a piece.
Rocky Harvey had a big day for the Freedom. Harvey rushed for 3 touchdowns and had 1 more receiving. Quarterback Antoine Taylor also contributed with 5 passing touchdowns and another 49 yards rushing.
“Taylor is quite an athlete, and we had some problems containing him,” added Coach Siani. “We will have to focus on not only stopping the running game, but also work on confining Taylor to the pocket when they come to Atlantic City.”

General manager and head coach Mike Siani announced today the signing of two more players to the CardSharks squad.
James “Rocco” DeMaise, a wide receiver and kick returner from Marlton, NJ, and Keith Jackson, a defensive lineman from Turnersville, NJ became the newest additions to the growing list of players now under contract. Siani is very pleased with the signing of both players as both DeMaise and Jackson have professional experience.
DeMaise, a 5’11” 190lb. wide receiver played his college football at Kings College and was a four year starter. While at Kings, he was a first team ECAC All-Star, he ranked 17th in the nation in rushing at 125 yards per game his senior year, was the team MVP and was a pre-season All-American. DeMaise’s professional career began with the Erie Invaders of the IFL during the 2000 season and then continued with the Trenton Lightning of the IPFL in 2001 where he led the entire league in all-purpose yards and touchdowns. Siani stated that DeMaise is a very exciting player to watch and is threat to score every time he gets his hands on the ball.
Jackson, a 6’4’’ 285lb. defensive tackle, played his college ball at Cheyney State University where he was a Two-time All Star, team MVP and also a pre-season All American. After a stellar career at Cheyney, Jackson was invited as a free agent to the Dallas Cowboys training camp in 2002. Jackson performed well at camp for the Cowboys, making it to the final cut and plans on getting back into an NFL camp again after the NIFL season. Keith possesses amazing speed and quickness for a man his size stated Siani, and he will be utilized at both nose tackle and defensive end. Siani looks forward to Jackson joining 6’5” 290 lb. Jamal Naji, 6’7” 320 lb. Kevin Knight and 6’3” 305lb. Sheldon Stewart to shore up the defensive line.
